Egypt: An Obama Foreign Policy Failure

leave a comment »

This week, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) called the recent events in Egypt and Obama’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood to be “one of the most stunning diplomatic failures in recent memory.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Since 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood has been attempting, either through diplomacy or incitement of terror by allying with the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and through association, Al-Qaeda to dictate an Islamic state in Egypt.  They were fervently angry when Anwar Sadat made peace with Israel after the Six-Day War, his friendship with the deposed Shah in Iran and his ties to the West.  They seethed for nearly 30 years until the Mubarak regime (which was rife with corruption in any case) gave them the opportunity to overthrow Mubarak and install Morsi as president.  Consider this:

But, these groups found a friend in Barack Obama.  When challenged about the Obama-Muslim Brotherhood connection, Obama’s silence is keynote.  Obama pushed in plans to provide F-16 fighters, Abrams tanks and over a billion dollars of financial aid to Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood-dominated government despite his crackdown on dissidents and the deteriorating plight of women in Egypt.  Consider Morsi’s words when dealing with the National Salvation Front:

“There is a president of the republic and there are emergency measures if any of them makes even the smallest of moves that undermines Egypt or the Egyptians. Their lives are worthless when it comes to the interests of Egypt and Egyptians. I am a president after a revolution, meaning that we can sacrifice a few so the country can move forward. It is absolutely no problem.”

Those protesting today in Egypt are right on both sides.  The anti- Brotherhood dissidents are angry and displaying anti-Obama effigies over his quiet helping hand support for the Brotherhood.  The Brotherhood is annoyed at America for it’s long-standing support of Israel (which all Islamists hate) as well as the American efforts to promote fair and equal treatment of women (and thus, meddling in Muslim affairs).

The Founders were very adamant about our involvement with foreign nations.  They believed in leadership by example, not by interference.  Yet our government continues to think that these foreign policy efforts are instrumental to our safety and yet, we continue to pick the wrong pony.  In fact, neither side is really in the right here, although I don’t think I would go with the Muslim Brotherhood like Obama has.

Consider what Dr. Khaled Said, Egyptian Cleric said on Al-Havez on March 13, 2013:

“If the revolution declares a framework for dealing with the West and America – they will accept it, kiss our hands, and double the aid they give us. We consider this aid to be jizya [poll tax], not regular aid. They pay so that we will let them be. The aid constitutes jizya.”

So, these people believe that when we give aid, which is basically $2 billion every year since 1979 (nearly $70 billion), it is tribute money, taxation that America pays to the Islamic bodies in Egypt in “submission” to their authority there.  Bollocks.

Well, I say it’s time to stop the gravy train until the following things are met:

  1. Egypt’s military and police forces must take steps to maintain security and quell the violence.
  2. Egypt’s government must be democratically constituted, from a mandate from the people, not from the jihadist clerics who seek to turn Egypt into an Islamic state.
  3. Egypt must not accept laws or social orders that denigrate women – giving them equal rights and opportunities in Egyptian society
  4. Allow for religious liberty in Egypt, allowing belief of any sort, regardless if it is Islamic, Christian, Jewish, or even atheist.  Let them belief as their conscience dictates without oppression.

Islamists will take this attitude as “meddling in their affairs”.  I just wish someone in America would say, “we don’t have to meddle in Egypt, but we don’t have to give them any money either”.  Let’s not promote organizations or “sides”, but American ideals, such as freedom and liberty for all citizens.

Yeah, I know, it’s too much to ask of people with agendas.

What’s Obama thinking now?  We don’t know for sure – he’s deafeningly silent – again.  But whatever befalls, Obama’s involvement will just make it much worse.  As usual.

Michelle Obama: I live in a Prison; TRC: Poooooor Baby.

Michelle Obama is on record complaining about how much of her life as First Lady is a “prison”.  A nice prison, but a prison.  Cry a me a bloody river, Michelle. Cry me a river.

Seriously.  She takes lavish vacations on the American taxpayer’s dime, And I’m not just talking about one or two.  It would seem she’s on vacation more often than not (except when griping about fat kids).  The Obamas still have to account for her ritzy break to Spain in 2010, her need to take separate planes from her husband for the $4 million dollar trip to Hawaii while cutting White House tours costing $2 million.  The Obama-kids go to the Bahamas while the parents go to Colorado for skiing each year, the entourage and all of a recent trip to Africa to give worthless speeches costing hundreds of millions, golf trips with Tiger Woods, and then lets not forget the upcoming trip to Martha’s Vineyard with entourage of Secret Service, a few aircraft, several limousines, drivers, Coast Guard,…need I go on?

Shut up, Michelle.  Your meaningless prattling about “prisons” is so tone-deaf with the way the world works that you’re pretty much spouting nonsense.
