Do You Agree With Reagan Yet, Liberals?

leave a comment »

Government is not the solution to the problem; government IS the problem.

It’s really coming down to trust.  With That One chalking up losses almost as fast as the Miami Marlins this year, the whole question of government trust.  And right now, it’s not looking good.

But then, who out there actually trusts or really ever trusted the government for anything?  Seriously, how many water-cooler conversations ever had a participant that said, “I really love and trust the government and I’m glad for it”.

Now, I am a conservative with a little bit of libertarian peppered in and I do recognize that there is a need for some aspects of government.

  • State – We need a government to negotiate with foreign powers on behalf of the Union.
  • Treasury – We need a government to print a unified currency for the Several States (and not print so much of it that we dilute the economy).
  • Commerce – We need a government to regulate commerce between the states, not the overreaching aspects where abuses of power become so prevalent (healthcare anyone?)
  • Defense – We need a government to call up troops that will defend the Union from enemies, foreign and domestic.

Past these, we need no other government – it should be held to the states (9th and 10th Amendments).

The issue here is one of trust.  And the president who promised us

  • Benghazi – Who really knew what when.  And yes, it’s important.
  • IRS – Why did they target conservatives and what’s up with the opulent spending?
  • AP – Why can’t Eric Holder answer questions regarding the AP story that published a year ago that contradicted the White House’s claim that officials knew of no attacks planned on U.S. soil for the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death?
  • In-Your-Face Appointments of Susan Rice and Samantha Power: Why?  Seriously, why put a liar in as your national security adviser and a known Israel-hating socialist and Soros-ite as the UN Ambassador?  Are you purposely trying to distort foreign policy and help terrorists?
  • NSA Monitoring of Cell Traffic – Really?  This is transparency, Mr. Obama?
  • Secret E-Mail Accounts for Internal Communications – Oh, that’s really transparent.

Conservatives have always been about reducing dependency on the government because of the sheer number of abuses and potential for corruption.  It’s far too easy to watch as the government uses its faceless power to capture the destitute.

One might say the same about capitalism.  The thing is, I can work hard and gain a living and elevate my status in a capitalistic society – I’ve already done it.  With socialism, not so much – you’re at the wishes of the government and it all becomes about politics.

Politics, as a game, is played through flows of information.  With all the stifiling of information by the left, well, is it any wonder what’s going on?

So much for transparency, eh?

IRS: Was There Any Doubt?

leave a comment »

Today, I have to sit on the phone for a while with the IRS – had a boo boo on my return that needed fixing.  No biggie, I’ll just sit here and listen to their elevator music while I write this article, watching the firework plumes get bigger as we see that IRS’ scrutinizing of right-wing groups has been pretty extensive..

And then, there is this story where IRS not only was beating up conservative groups who criticize the government, but also, someone on the inside leaking the National Organization for Marriage’s confidential donor information, specifically, that Mitt Romney’s PAC had donated to NOM.

Churches for years have had this “gag order” where their tax-exempt status would be threatened if they spoke anything remotely political from their pulpits.  Now my church has three words for them: bring it on.  There’s a growing sentiment that if a church actually gets it’s tax exempt status pulled because of what it preaches, that it will trigger a First Amendment lawsuit under the free exercise clause.

And then, there’s the insanity that’s coming with respect to ObamaCare(less).  Turns out, with next year’s return, there will be an additional form – a form that will require the taxpayer to submit information about their Qualifying Health Plan, to ensure that we’re all complying like good little drones.  That’s going to really increase the nightmare

Is all this at all surprising?  Not really.  This is the kind of strong-arm political machinery that has Chicago written all over it – and namely Obama.  This is the way that Obama knows to do politics and is the Chicago way.  Or do we all think Rahm Emanuel is such a great and up-standing guy?

Well, an hour later and the call just wrapped up, so I will stop writing.  The lady asked graciously thanked me for my patience and asked if there is anything more she could do for me.  My response, “No, ma’am – I think y’all have plenty of other business and other customers to get to.”

Stay Rabid my Friends..

The IRS Does Star Trek – Badly

leave a comment »

I love Star Trek and have since I was a kid.  I’ve watched every episode of every series repeatedly.  I’ve seen every movie and regularly pull out quotes from them during social situations.  I play Star Trek Online.  I created my own ship back when TNG came out.  I’m a Trek nerd and I am not ashamed to say so.

I’ve been watching Star Trek: The New Voyages and while I was not at all pleased with the episode Blood and Fire which had a gay love scene, I just fast forward through that and keep going – just because it’s Trek, done reasonably well.

I watch all the fan made stuff too – even the stupidest stuff, done low budget, with some of the worst acting imaginable.

So when I heard on Friday that the IRS had this 2010 training video set in the Final Frontier, I figured I would have a look.

It’s utter crap….and it cost $60,000!

I’ve seen low budget fan films that went for less money but were better made.  And as it was designed to be one of those corny training videos, but turned out to be a waste of taxpayer dollars, I will not be sparing or merciful in my criticism of it.   I already hate the IRS to begin with, so now, out comes my Cudgel of Unfair Browbeating.

  1. Better Fitting Uniforms  – Every one of these people look like cosplay rookies at a convention.  All are in TNG uniforms except the old crone at communications who was wearing a TOS frock – which was the wrong color for that uniform.  TOS operations officers wore red.Perhaps that was a good move, since female TNG uniforms were one piece form fitting and – well, no one wants to see that.
  2. The Comm Officer – This lady used the name “Uhura”.  Frankly, I found it pretty wrong, since Uhura is a Swahili word, specifically chosen for the character, because she was of African descent.  Anyone who knows anything about Trek understands that Uhura’s character was specifically chosen to be a black woman – because she represented, in one character, Roddenberry’s equality vision for Star Trek. But I guess we should, instead, we should call her Ujinga – which is Swahili for “ridiculous/foolish”.
  3. Overweight Spock – This guy looks like he mind-melded with a cheeseburger, which I wonder if he tried to claim as a deduction.  Maybe with the budget, someone could have sprung for a couple bucks of liquid latex to at least blend the ears in.  Or maybe they could do something better with the hair, since that looks like someone made a beanie out of a plastic trash bag and put it on his head.
  4. Backwards Bridge – The forward consoles for Ops and Conn are in this half circle pointing away.  But of course, we’re dealing with the IRS, so a badly designed, inefficient bridge works – since the tax code is pretty much the same.
  5. The Captain’s Chair – The thing looks like someone took an office chair and taped boxes to the side arms and a TV remote on top.  I’ve seen some pretty cheesy mockups, but that is pretty much as bad as it comes.
  6. The IRS Building as the Ship – Really, people?  At least when Mel Brooks did Jews in Space, the Star-of-David ships were funny and made sense.  This just looks stupid.  They called it the Enterprise-Y.  I just say, why?

So there it is – another IRS mistake, dripping in lamesauce, and deserving of as much public mockery as can be wrought by the blogosphere.  But we should be relieved that we now have Federation policy that goes after dangerous enemies – not the Romulans, the Borg, or the Klingons, but rather the dangerous tax evaders who threaten freedom.

Okay, I’m done. *crashing sound*

Read it: Highly illogical: IRS training video that parodies ‘Star Trek’ apparently lacks training value – The Washington Post.

The schlock of a video – if you want to sacrifice six minutes of your life.

TRC – One’s Own Words

leave a comment »

Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter. ”  – Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998

This week, the news (at least the right-wing news) is all a-twitter about the latest name to the tax offender list – Senator Tom Daschle, President Obama’s pick to head up the Department of Health and Human Services.  This week, it was broke by ABC News that Mr. Daschle had failed to pay more than $100,000 in back taxes as the result of the use of a car and driver which he thought was a gift.  He’s deeply remorseful and will be refiling/paying everything back.  However, he asked for clemency with respect to 30 years of national service.

*taps on the screen next to Daschle’s quote*

Evidently, this problem is pretty pervasive these days. Take a look at this list:

Tim Geithner – Failed to pay payroll (medicare and social security) taxes from income that he received from the International Monetary Fund.  His bill, $17,230 – of course, has been refiled and paid. His title – Secretary of the Treasury…in charge of the IRS. Joy.

Rep. Charlie Rangel – Failed to report $75,000 in rental income from a villa he owns in the Dominican Republic.  As reported in September, he refiled his taxes and paid about $10k. He insists he did nothing wrong, blaming the issue on “cultural and language barriers”.

Al Franken – During his Senate campaign, it was outed in May 2008 that Al Franken didn’t pay taxes from 2003-2006 while earning revenue in 19 different states. With all the interest and penalties, the bill comes to about $70,000. He attributes his problems to an accountant’s mistake, a mistake that reputable firms have gone on record to say, is a “rookie mistake”, one that “learned from the first tax class in college”.  The mistake, if you earn money in a state, you pay taxes to that state, not just the state in which you live. Duh.

ACORN – Matthew Vadum of the Capital Research Center did some poking around into the number of tax liens issued against the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN) and found over 230 liens (75 of which have been released – the rest outstanding) of tax liability going back to the ‘80’s. These liens total more than $3.7 million.  ACORN is an activist group that, through affiliates, was paid nearly $800.000 by the Democratic National Committee for ‘get-out-the-vote’ activities for Barack Obama.  This organization has been replete with discovered voter fraud through multiple registrations and such.  ACORN has been granted around $31 million in federally funded grants since 1998.

Keith Olbermann – The liberal hotheaded commentator at P-MSNBC, Keith Olbermann currently has a tax warrant or judgment for $2269 against his personal corporation, Olbermann Broadcasting Empire, Inc. (sheesh…this guy loves himself unnaturally).  Additionally, and even more serious, New York filed another judgment for $21,565 against Olbermann himself in July 2000. Finally, California records show another big judgment, $77, 425 filed in September 2001 brings his tax bill to up around $100,000.  This tax-and-spend liberal loves to talk about raising your taxes, but doesn’t care about paying his.

Whether these knuckleheads made honest mistakes or are lying to all of us, thinking we’re idiots, the point here is that we’re being asked to forgive and forget, yet, I would ask, if Rush Limbaugh was found not paying his taxes, or if John Boehner had a house and land that he didn’t pay taxes on, or if some other GOP/right-winger failed to pay taxes, well, he’s unpatriotic (Right Mr. Vice President Biden?). But since it’s on the left, well, they are ‘honest mistakes’.

There is a new sheriff in town, and if you are part of the D-Team, your tax problems are all good.
