Paying Taxes Does Not Make One a Saint

leave a comment »

And not legally paying taxes does not make one a bad person.

We have to stop treating the government like a charity. Particularly around election times and in this present season, where we’re comparing tax returns for the candidates in order to “establish financial credibility”, etc etc.

Paying more taxes than one is legally obligated to pay doesn’t make a person a saint. It makes them *stupid*. Our current tax law has so many loopholes and ways that people can exploit to get out of paying taxes. And it doesn’t matter if you’re a liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, Green, Blue, Red, gay, straight, boy, girl, Christian, or atheist, if you are able to avoid a tax legally, then you’re completely in your rights not pay that tax.

But for some reason, there is this nonsense running around that the New York Times is pinning Donald Trump on whether he paid taxes for years on end, only to find out that the Old Gray Lady paid no taxes in 2014 either.

Whatever. On both counts.

Both Trump and the Times are business minded. They are trying to earn profit and keep that profit in their own hands, not the government’s claws. But we’re all supposed to hate on both of them. Why? Because we all paid taxes and they didn’t? Really?

Jealous much?

I know I have tried every hook and crook within the scope of the law to prevent paying taxes. I’ve tried itemizing deductions, claiming usages for my house for non-taxable reasons, claiming sales tax, everything I could as an individual to get out of paying anything to the government. It’s my money, not the government’s.

So, sorry everyone, but you can keep all the crocodile tears and fake piety.

Even With a Credit Downgrade, Dems Don’t Get It

leave a comment »

Can we really be surprised that the US was going to be downgraded?

I love America and the exceptionalism that makes us a leader in the world.  But as of last night, other nations will have to take the lead in the financial world because the thing that was prophesized, a downgrade in our credit rating, happened.

We can’t say we were not warned of this.  During the debt deal debacle, Moody’s and S&P warned the US that in order to preserve the AAA credit rating, at least $4 trillion would have to be shaved from the budget.  That means we would have to spend less, because there’s no way we were about to raise that kind of revenue in taxes (at least through direct taxation).  The best deal that Congress could schlep together

So, last night we got downgraded and we have to recognize that the Canadian Dollar and the British Pound are safer bets for investment than the US Dollar.  We may not want to accept that, but it’s true.  And why?  Because Congress keeps pushing up the debt ceiling and devaluing the US Dollar.

It’s because Congress’ inability to stop the spending and act responsibly with the American taxpayers’ money that reduces the force of the US Dollar in the world economy.  It’s sad that the world has to pick up the spoon and tell Congress to eat our peas.  Right, Barry?

Unfortunately, we are staring it right in the face.  And until the Congress, and specifically, the militant progressive Lib-crats who only want to cut spending from the Department of Defense to preserve their voter base, changes its ways and does what all of us on Main Street, Elm Street, Sycamore Drive, and Blueberry Way have to do to keep our financial houses in order, it will never change.

And this just in. Democrats want more revenue, aka use class warfare to tax the rich* and punish them for having a corporate jet or an oil business.  Ooo…big surprise, Jeebs.  I’m all for stopping the cash giveaways but while we are browbeating the rich, perhaps we out to knock off ALL the cash giveaways – which means, cut the spending to bloated wasteful entitlement programs.

It’s stunning how very dimwitted the Dems are on this topic.  But hey, their rhetoric is great for politics.

* By the way, you can’t tax the rich because those billionaire corporate jet-owning oil tycoons will just pass the expenses onto their customers.  Sooner or later, the middle-class gets the pinch because the poor just can’t pay.

Airline Fraud

leave a comment »

With the government halting operations of the FAA because of shutdown due to funding, supposedly it means cheaper tickets for travellers.  However, it’s been reported that the airlines are keeping the money by raising fares so the tickets cost the same.

This means that the airlines are continuing to charge about $25-30 million per day for taxes that the government isn’t collecting.  This means that the airlines are pocketing that money and are deceiving customers by saying they aren’t collecting taxes during the FAA shutdown.

Caveat emptor people.  Tight economies make for more thieves and crooks.

The Voice of the Adversary: SEIU and the Debt Ceiling

leave a comment »

Sometimes, not very often, though, I will read the e-mails that I get from the Lib-Crat opposition to hear the kinds of spin that they put on.  Today, I got an e-mail today from the SEIU with the following silliness:

The New York Times reported on a debt ceiling deal that would make deep cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security benefits without asking for an ounce of sacrifice from corporations and millionaires.

The bill would add millions to the unemployment rolls and deny medical care to the most vulnerable among us – including many of the people SEIU members care for on a daily basis.

Source: SEIU e-mail from Mary Kay Henry

Once again, lib-crats go after the wealthy as their solution, thinking that the more you make, the more you should have to be taxed.  Thing is, the rich pay more taxes than anyone else.  The top 1% of wage earners pay nearly 40% of all the taxes in this country.  The top 25% pay about 86%.  The top 50% pay 97%.

Sadly, though, the greatest majority of those on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are in the bottom 50%. So, basically this is wealth transfer, plain and simple.

So, basically Mary Kay Henry is telling all the SEIU drones to flood the Congress with phone calls to “save the entitlement programs” keeping the rich to pay for them with no return on their money.  Just like SEIU to play the class warfare card.  But then, they are a labor union; it’s what they do.

Even if we took all the money from the rich, we couldn’t save these programs, that’s why they need to be restructured to be financially solvent. But Mary Kay doesn’t get it. In general, the Dems aren’t getting it.

Read the IRS Tax Data – it’s not that tough a read either.

80% of Who, Again?

leave a comment »

So, His Eminence, Barack Obama today stood before the White House press junkies and made this statement with respect to the current struggle in Congress over whether we should go further in debt to cover our spending, or cut the spending.

Obama made the statement that 80% of Americans were on his side with respect to the debate of what to include in the debt package. That means that 80% are alright with the aspect with raising taxes.

What 80% of Americans are we talking about here; the ones that live in the US or the ones who vote left wing? Obama hasn’t asked me – or anyone I know about whether they think we should have our federal taxes raised.  As a matter of fact, I’m willing to bet that 8 out of 10 people that I asked, "Hey, do you want to have your taxes raised?", they would reply with a hearty "no".

Americans do agree that something has to be done, but it’s pretty arrogant and presumptuous to say that 80% of Americans are behind him when 80% of Americans have never been behind Obama on anything.  I would argue that would also include putting a bullet in Osama Bin Laden’s brain pan.

After Obama’s whiny little spat with Eric Cantor yesterday and him stating that he was going back to the American people, rather than actually asking the American people.  Obama knows full well what Americans would actually say if he actually asked them.

Raising taxes on the rich, even if we took 100% of their earned revenue in taxes would not solve the problem at all; it’s like taking $1 to pay against a $10,000 debt.  But Obama and the Dems are playing the class warfare card, scaring the crap out of those who live on Social Security, and not bothering to look at the federal budget, line by line like he promised during the 2008 campaign, and cutting out the pork.  All the man wants to do is raise taxes, and continue to spend – tax and spend, tax and spend.

Obama absolutely refuses to back away from this point and it’s staggering that a man who purports to have an IQ around 140 can’t actually understand this point.  Obama lacks the cajones to actually go on record as cutting anything because that’s potential lost votes when 2012 starts rolling around.

And yet, Obama has the audacity to say that Congress is playing politics. If Obama was committed to this process, he would have fulfilled his campaign promises of cutting out unnecessary spending and not raising taxes.  He wants to renege on both.

The way out of this situation is what we down on Main Street live with every day: Cut the spending and live within our means.

Competing Liberal Views

leave a comment »

Liberals sometimes never cease to amaze me.  Not in the amazing as in the positive impressiveness, but the amazing as in, just when I think liberals can’t get any more dumb, something like this occurs and…well, I’m amazed.

To wit, the Washington state legislature is considering a bill, introduced by the Democrats, to impose a tax on electric-powered vehicles.  Essentially, by citing things like road wear-and-tear, the Democrats are thinking they need to impose an annual tax on cars that don’t use gasoline.  Of course, gas-powered cars pay for their fair share of the wear-and-tear at the pump, each time they fill up.  But electric-cars, well, not so much, since they get plugged in every night.

On the surface, you would think this is actually an equitable solution because it’s “only fair” and the lib-crats are all about imposing their definition of “fairness” on the population by virtue of big government.  But this one works against the liberal environmentalist mantra of trying to reduce the dependence on petroleum.

Now, while I don’t advocate this, since I don’t want to be accused of giving the lib-crats any ideas, there is a way to achieve the same objective and “have their cake and eat it too”.  What if they imposed that additional tax on all of us evil petroleum users and give their electric cars the advantage of tax-free operation?  After all, the iron rules of economy:

If you want more of something, you subsidize it.

If you want less of something, you tax it.

So, effectively, by the Washington state assembly advocating the taxation of electric vehicles, they are saying to the world that they are willing to have more taxes at the expense of losing their effort to eliminate the need for gas-powered cars.

One lib-crat ideal in competition with another lib-crat ideal.  Amazing, right?

Yeah, me neither.

In Short: More Evidence of What Grows Economies

leave a comment »

Liberals continue to ignore the evidence all around them.  Today, the Washington Examiner printed this rather insightful article that shows what grows economies.  In short, not taxing the so-called rich into oblivion, giving people the right to spend their own increase as they wish, and encouraging businesses to grow through liberty and freedom is the reason why Texas is kicking the pants off of everywhere else in the nation.

If we want America to grow we need to keep taxes low, get the government the heck out of people’s lives (net-neutrality nonsense), and hold to the Constitutional values that make our land the envy of the entire world.
